You can block acrylic, but you need to add damp heat to the mix to make the block stay.

When I blocked my acrylic shawls, I pinned them damp to my mattress, then put the fitted sheet over top and ironed the crap out of them with a steam iron set to medium. I highly recommend using the spare/guest bedroom, 'cause it takes some acrylics a surprisingly long time to dry '>

This method is called "killing" the acrylic. Be carefl not to overstretch the scarf, because once it's killed, it won't spring back. At all. But the curl will be gone.
